International Relations & Defense

  • India-Greece Naval Exercise: The first bilateral maritime exercise between the Indian Navy and Hellenic Navy (Greece) was held in the Mediterranean Sea. INS Trikand led the Indian participation.
  • Indian Defense Manufacturing Plant Abroad: Under the "Atmanirbhar Bharat" initiative, the first foreign Indian defense manufacturing plant is being established in Morocco, inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Tata Advanced Systems Limited will also be established there to promote India-Africa cooperation.
  • Operation Sindoor: An Indian Army mission to destroy 9 terrorist infrastructure units in Pakistan-Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK). Pakistan launched "Operation Banyan Al Marsus" in response, involving drone attacks.
  • India-UK FTA: India signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the UK after 3 years of negotiations.
  • DRDO Missile Test Range: PM Modi inaugurated DRDO's new missile test range, Navdurga, in Andhra Pradesh.

Economy & Governance

  • CAG's State Finance Report 2022-23: The first-ever "State Finance Report" by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) revealed that public debt of 28 Indian states has tripled in 10 years (from approx. ₹17.57 lakh crore to ₹60 lakh crore). This debt averages 23% of states' GSDP, mainly due to subsidies. Punjab has the highest Debt-to-GSDP ratio (40.35%), while Odisha has the lowest (8.45%).
    • Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG): Mentioned as Sanjay Murti (lecture info).
  • PhonePe as Online Payment Aggregator: RBI granted final approval to PhonePe to operate as an online payment aggregator, aiming to provide fast payment facilities for MSME entrepreneurs and promote financial inclusion.
  • GST Reforms: Next-generation GST reforms, including new tax slabs (5%, 18%, 40% on some items), are being implemented from September 22. DSB Bank received RBI approval to collect GST payments.
  • Highest GST Collection (FY24): Maharashtra recorded the highest GST collection.

Awards & Recognition

  • Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023: Awarded to Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. This is India's highest honor in cinema, presented by the President. Dadasaheb Phalke (D. Govind Phalke), known as the "Father of Indian Cinema," directed India's first feature film "Raja Harishchandra" in 1913.
  • Oscars 2026 - India's Official Entry: "Homebound," directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, is India's official entry for the International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards in March 2026.
    • Past Indian Oscar achievements: "Mother India" (first nominated film), "Naatu Naatu" and "The Elephant Whisperers" (two Oscars in 2023). Bhanu Athaiya (first Indian Oscar winner), Satyajit Ray (Lifetime Achievement Oscar).
  • 71st National Film Awards:

  • Project Kuiper: Amazon initiated this project for broadband internet, launching its first batch of 27 satellites.
  • First AI-based Data Center Park: Its foundation stone was laid in Chhattisgarh.

Sports

  • Arshdeep Singh - T20 Wickets: Became the first Indian bowler to take 100 T20 International wickets in 64 matches, achieving the milestone against Oman. Rashid Khan (Afghanistan) holds the world record for the fastest 100 T20I wickets (53 matches).
    • First Indian to take 100 Test wickets: Vinoo Mankad.
    • First Indian to take 100 ODI wickets: Kapil Dev.
  • World Speed Skating Championship: Held in China, where India's Anand Kumar Velkumar won two gold and one bronze medal, including a gold in the 42 km marathon, making him the first Indian to do so.
  • World Athletics Championship: Held in Tokyo, Japan, where Neeraj Chopra finished 8th.
  • Asian Cadet Cup: To be held in Haldwani, Uttarakhand.
  • Khelo India Youth Games (7th edition): Held in Bihar (mascot: Gaj Singh). Maharashtra secured the first place in the points table for Khelo India Youth Games 2025.
  • Virat Kohli: Played his first test match against West Indies.

Infrastructure & Environment

  • Project Vijayak (BRO): Border Roads Organization (BRO) celebrated the 15th anniversary of Project Vijayak on September 21, 2025, in Kargil, Ladakh. The project, started in 2010, aims to establish 12-month road connectivity in Ladakh by constructing roads (1400 km) and over 80 major bridges. BRO (established May 7, 1960, HQ in Delhi) functions under the Ministry of Defence. Ladakh became a UT on October 31, 2019, with Leh as its capital, and has 7 districts.
  • Transhipment Port: PM Modi inaugurated India's first transhipment port, Vizhinjam, in Kerala.
  • PM Modi's "Samudra se Samriddhi" program: PM Modi participated in this program in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. He also visited the National Maritime Heritage Complex in Lothal and conducted an aerial survey of Dholera.
  • Tassarab Chu Conservation Reserve: India's largest conservation reserve (10,585 sq km) located in Himachal Pradesh.

  • Tri-Services Academic Technical Symposium (T-SETS): Held at Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi (Sept 22-23, 2025), involving Armed Forces and academic institutions to promote innovation and cooperation. Theme: "From Wisdom to Research."
  • Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT): The 10th All India Conference was held at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi, inaugurated by Justice B.R. Gavai (52nd Chief Justice of India). CAT is mentioned in Article 323A (Part 14A) of the Constitution, added by the 42nd Amendment (1976), and was established on November 1, 1985.
  • WHO Age-Friendly City: Kozhikode (Kerala) was recognized by WHO as an age-friendly city.
  • UNESCO Water Heritage Museums Network: Kozhikode became India's third museum to be included.
  • Ayurveda Day: Celebrated on September 23.
  • Genome-Edited Rice Varieties: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan launched India's first two genome-edited rice varieties: DRR 100 Kamla and Marute 1010.
  • Baba Sivananda: The Padma Shri recipient and yoga practitioner passed away at 128 (from Varanasi).
  • Operation Sankalp (and Black Forest): Security forces eliminated 22 Naxals in Chhattisgarh.
  • Operation Hawk: CBI busted an international online child sexual exploitation network.
  • Operation Chakra: CBI busted a SIM card fraud racket across 8 states.
  • Sarnath Buddha Relics: India sent sacred Buddha relics from Sarnath to Vietnam during the UN Vesak Day 25 ceremony.
