Ramser Sites and Wetlands

  • Silised Lake in Alwar has been granted Ramser Site status on 12 December 2025.
  • The Ramser Convention originated on 2 February 1971 in Ramsar, Iran, on the shores of the Caspian Sea, to protect wetlands.
  • 2 February is celebrated as Ramser Day.
  • The Caspian Sea's presence affects "Mawat" (winter rainfall) in Rajasthan.
  • The convention came into effect in 1975. India joined on 1 February 1982.
  • Rajasthan now has five Ramser Sites:
    • Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary, Bharatpur (1 October 1981)
    • Sambhar Lake, Jaipur (23 March 1990)
    • Menar Village, Udaipur (4 June 2025)
    • Khechan Village, Phalodi (4 June 2025)
    • Silised Lake, Alwar (12 December 2025)
  • Silised Lake is India's 95th Ramser Site. India currently has 96 Ramser Sites.
  • Rajasthan's total notified wetlands number 76.

Ancient Civilization Remains

  • Recent findings of ancient civilization remains in Rajasthan:

    • Ratadiya ki Deri, Jaisalmer: Evidence of 4500-year-old Harappan civilization.
    • Bahaj Village, Deeg: Approximately 2500-year-old evidence.
    • Bansiyal, Jhunjhunu: Approximately 4500-year-old evidence, including copper rings, bone tools, and lime powder walls.
    • Rampura, Khetri, Jhunjhunu: Evidence of ancient civilization, including remnants of house structures and walls.
  • Panch Gaurav (Five Glories) of Jhunjhunu:

    • Agriculture: Mustard
    • Vegetation: Khejri
    • Industry: Wooden products
    • Tourism: Lohargal
    • Sport: Basketball

Khetri Virasat Diwas and Swami Vivekananda

  • Khetri Virasat Diwas (Khetri Heritage Day) was celebrated on 12 December 2025.
  • Swami Vivekananda meditated in Nandi Gufa near Nakki Lake, Mount Abu, Sirohi.
  • Raja Ajit Singh of Khetri met Swami Vivekananda at Nakki Lake, Mount Abu, on 4 June 1891.
  • Swami Vivekananda visited Khetri thrice:
    • First visit: 7 August 1891 – 27 October 1891
    • Second visit: 21 April 1893 – 10 May 1893 (from where he proceeded to the Parliament of Religions in Chicago).
    • Third visit: 12 December 1897 – 21 December 1897 (after returning from Chicago; Raja Ajit Singh walked 10 km to welcome him).
  • Khetri Virasat Diwas is celebrated annually on 12 December in memory of Swami Vivekananda's third return to Khetri.
  • Rajasthan's Ramkrishna Mission and Vivekananda Museum are both located in Khetri.
  • India's first Ramkrishna Mission was established in Khetri.

Important Days in Rajasthan

  • Revenue Day: 15 October (due to the Rajasthan Tenancy Act 1955 coming into effect).
  • MSME Day: 17 September.
  • Nirogi Rajasthan Diwas: 19 December (marking the launch of the Nirogi Rajasthan Abhiyan).

Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Policy

  • Rajasthan has implemented the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Policy for the first time.
  • The policy was launched by the Urban Development Department.
  • It aims to develop urban areas on the lines of New York City.
  • The policy focuses on creating self-contained zones by developing essential facilities (residential, commercial, and other amenities) within an 800-meter radius of metro, rail, and bus stations.
  • A location is designated as a TOD area if over 5000 people travel in one direction on a road within an hour.

6th National Para Shooting Championship

  • Sushil Kumar Meena (from Rajasthan) won a gold medal in the 6th National Para Shooting Championship held in New Delhi.
