WHO Global TB Report 2025

  • India recorded the highest global decline in tuberculosis (TB) cases.
  • TB cases in India decreased by 21% from 237 per 100,000 people in 2015 to 187 per 100,000 in 2024.
  • The global average decline in TB cases was 12%.
  • TB-related deaths in India reduced from 28 per 100,000 in 2015 to 21 per 100,000 in 2025.
  • TB is caused by bacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) and primarily affects the respiratory system.
  • Robert Koch discovered the TB bacteria. BCG is the TB vaccine.

Defense & Security

  • "Garuda 2025" Air Force Exercise:
    • Joint exercise between India and France, to be hosted in France.
    • India will participate with Rafale and Sukhoi aircraft.
    • Other India-France exercises include Shakti, Varuna, and FRINJEX.
  • "Operation Akhand Prahar" Exercise:
    • Conducted by the Indian Army in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
    • Aimed at testing the capabilities of the Rudra Brigade.
  • Mudnio Airbase:
    • India inaugurated the Mudnio Airbase in Ladakh.
    • It is located near the Line of Actual Control (LAC), Pangong Lake, and Galwan Valley.
    • This is Ladakh's fourth airbase, in addition to Leh, Kargil, and Thoise.
    • Situated at an altitude of 13,710 feet.
    • A C13J Super Hercules aircraft made the first landing at the airbase.
  • Durga Drone Squadron:
    • The Border Security Force (BSF) launched the first all-women drone operation unit, named "Durga Drone Squadron."
    • Training for the squadron took place in Gwalior.
    • The BSF, established in 1965, is deployed along the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders.
    • Suman Kumari is recognized as the first woman sniper of the BSF.

International & Economic Initiatives

  • World's First Green Fuel Levy:
    • Singapore announced the implementation of the world's first green fuel levy.
    • It will apply to passengers departing by air from Singapore, effective April 1, 2026.
    • Revenue generated will be utilized to fund the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
  • "Walk to Mars" Marathon:
    • Organized by the UAE, this initiative aims for participants to collectively cover the distance of 5.4 crore km (Earth to Mars) through walking, cycling, or running.
    • The primary objective is to promote fitness.

Sports

  • FIH Hockey World Cup 2026:
    • Will be jointly hosted by the Netherlands and Belgium.
    • The tournament will feature both men's and women's categories, with 16 teams participating in each.
    • The 2023 Men's Hockey World Cup was held in Rourkela, India (Birsa Munda Stadium) and was won by Germany.
  • Maanju Bala:
    • Indian hammer thrower, received a 5-year ban due to a doping violation.

  • 13th International Tourism Mart:
    • Inaugurated by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in Sikkim.
    • Focused on promoting tourism in the eight North Eastern (Asthalakshmi) states.
    • The "Journey for Life" initiative was launched.
  • National Tribal Film Festival:
    • Scheduled to be held in Imphal, Manipur.
  • India International Trade Fair:
    • To be held at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi.
  • Regional Narcotic Drug Prohibition Conference:
    • Held in Nagaland.

Health & Environment

  • World Diabetes Day 2025:
    • Celebrated on November 14 (coinciding with Children's Day in India).
    • Commemorates the birthday of Frederick Banting, a co-discoverer of insulin.
    • Insulin, discovered by Best and Banting in 1922, is a hormone that regulates blood sugar and contains zinc, secreted by the beta cells of the pancreas.
  • Salumarada Thimmakka:
    • A renowned environmentalist from Karnataka, passed away.
    • She was famous for planting numerous banyan trees ("Salumarada" means "rows of trees").
    • Awarded the Padma Shri in 2019.

Bihar Assembly Election Results

  • Elections for 243 seats were held in two phases.
  • Recorded a voter turnout of 67.13%, the highest since India's independence.
  • Final results (declared November 14):
    • NDA secured 202 seats.
    • BJP emerged as the largest single party with 89 seats.
    • JDU (Nitish Kumar's party) won 85 seats.
    • RJD (Tejashwi Yadav's party) won 25 seats.
    • LJP (Chirag Paswan's party) won 19 seats.
    • Congress won 6 seats.
  • Notable outcomes in key constituencies:
    • Tejashwi Yadav won from Raghopur.
    • Tej Pratap Yadav lost from Mahuwa.
    • Maithili Thakur, at 25 years old, became the youngest MLA, winning from Alinagar.
