- Heligubbi Volcano Eruption (Ethiopia):
- The Heligubbi volcano in Ethiopia (Afar region, Africa) erupted on November 23rd, after 12,000 years.
- Smoke and ash reached a height of 14 km.
- Ash clouds travelled over 4000 km, crossing the Red Sea and Gulf countries, reaching parts of India (Delhi, Jaipur), leading to some flight cancellations in India.
- It is a Shield Volcano located in a sensitive tectonic zone (Rift Valley).
- Global Methane Status Report 2025:
- Issued by UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme).
- India is ranked as the world's third-largest methane emitter.
- The top three emitters are: 1. USA, 2. China, 3. India.
- India emitted 31 million tons of methane in 2024.
- Methane (CH4) is a potent greenhouse gas contributing to global warming, primarily from wetlands, ruminant livestock, and paddy fields.
- Global Commitment to Development Index 2025:
- Issued by the Center for Global Development.
- India is ranked 36th.
- Sweden is ranked 1st.
- China is ranked 34th.
- The index evaluates countries' commitment to development across areas like finance, environment, health, security, trade, and technology.
- BEL-Safran Agreement (Defense):
- India's Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) signed an MoU with France's Safran company.
- The agreement is for joint manufacturing of the Hammer Precision Weapon in India.
- Hammer stands for 'Highly Agile Modular Munition Extended Range'.
- It is a high-accuracy weapon capable of destroying bunkers, intended for use with platforms like Tejas and Rafale, with a 50% Indian and 50% Safran contribution.
- T20 Blind World Cup:
- India won the T20 Blind World Cup, defeating Nepal in the final.
National Current Events
- NALSA Executive Chairman Appointment:
- Justice Vikram Nath has been appointed as the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
- NALSA was established in 1995 under the Legal Services Authorities Act of 1987, based on Article 39A (Free Legal Aid), which was added by the 42nd Constitution Amendment Act of 1976.
- The head of NALSA is always a senior Supreme Court judge. Justice Vikram Nath is expected to become the Chief Justice of India in 2027.
- NALSA's helpline number for legal assistance is 1500.
- Pellet Plant Inauguration (Haryana):
- Union Minister Prahlad Joshi inaugurated a Pellet Plant in Rewari, Haryana.
- The plant will convert agricultural stubble (parali) into biomass pellets.
- These biomass pellets will be used in thermal power plants.
- The plant has a capacity of 240 tons of pellets per day, aiming to reduce air pollution from stubble burning and create employment.
- National Constitution Day 2025:
- Celebrated annually on November 26th, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution on November 26, 1949.
- The official celebration began in 2015.
- The 2025 theme is "हमारा संविधान हमारा स्वाभिमान" (Our Constitution, Our Pride).

- CISF as Security Regulator for Ports:
- The Central Government appointed the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) as the new security regulator for 250 Indian ports.
- CISF was established in 1969 based on the recommendations of the Mukherjee Committee and falls under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
- This expands CISF's role from 13 major ports to include 250 smaller ports.
- New Species of Owl Fly Discovered (Kerala):
- A new species of 'Owl Fly' (an insect resembling an owl) was discovered in the jungles of Malappuram, Kerala, after 134 years.
- The discovery was made in the Western Ghats, a biodiversity hotspot.
- MEMU Train Launch (Delhi-Shamli):
- Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav inaugurated two MEMU (Mainline Electrical Multiple Unit) trains.
- The trains will operate on the Delhi-Shamli and Delhi-Saharanpur-Shamli routes.
